How To Approach Nutrition Outside the Box

“Nutrition“ is this vague word that you tend to throw around but only have a small idea of what it means. Sure you can look it up in the dictionary but what does it mean to you? What kind of pictures comes to mind when you think of nutrition? What is your life like with proper nutrition? These questions have to be answered, otherwise, you get lost.

I am going to assume that you are lost because you are reading this blog but that’s okay. You are not alone in this. Only 10% of people in North America are living this healthy lifestyle of exercising 3x/week, eating whole organic foods, and getting quality sleep. The reason is, is because it is actually a difficult thing to do.

I this Blog I will show how to approach Nutrition where you don’t normally approach it.

Before we get started I want to share a quote.

”If You Always Do What You’ve Always Done, You’ll Always Get What You’ve Always Got.” This means you need to think differently if you want to get different results. If you want to get the results of that person you want to be then it is vital that you start to think like them. The difference between you and that successful person is that they know something you don’t. It is your job to figure out what that is.

Without further or do, here are 3 ways you can approach your nutrition from a different angle.

1. Manage Your Sleep

The quality of your rest and recovery plays one of the biggest roles when it comes to your overall health, your body composition (the way you look physically), and your stress. Without proper rest, your body will go into survival mode and holding on to everything it can to survive. This results in your body not functioning at its full capacity. Think of a classroom where everyone is fooling around and not one student is paying attention. You can’t learn anything with a disruptive class and the same goes for your body. It is hard to change physically and mentally when everything is not in place.

Tip: Get to bed before 10:00 pm. Sleep and wake up at the same times throughout the week.

2. Manage Your Stress

As I said above the number one factor to look at when it comes to handling your stress is your sleep. Let’s say you are getting quality sleep then what else can you look into? Your work, your relationships or even just doing more of what you love. How does stress play in your nutrition? To connect these 2 let us define what stress is. Stress is a signal to the body that it is in danger and when it is in danger then it will do all kinds of things to help you survive. Your mood goes from calm to aggressive because you need to be prepared to defend yourself. Your hunger rises because you are utilizing your mind and body to almost full capacity so it needs to refuel (it is in search of nutrients). So if we are able to better manage our stress levels then we can manage our food intake. You must focus on relaxing because what is the opposite of stress? It is to relax.

Tip: Practice peace. Go for 15-minute nature walks or meditate for 15 mins daily.

3. Create a Healthy Environment

This is one of the simplest things to do is to eliminate any food that doesn’t lead you to your goal. If you make it easy for yourself to eat junk food (processed foods) then you are more likely to forget and give up on your goal. However, it also the same when it comes to making it easy for ourselves to eat healthier. Think about it, if you do not have any junk food at home will it be a hassle for you to go to the grocery store to buy junk? Of course, it will be. You may be thinking that you can easily order delivery but even with delivery, you can still make healthy choices which means you are already 1 step forward. It isn’t about being perfect but always moves forward. When you take small steps you increase the chance of you reaching your desired outcome.

Tip: Remove foods at home that doesn’t support your goal. Remove candy, chocolate bars, and processed foods.

Just by adopting these 3 simple things can get you started on the right path. I know you tend to overthink things before taking action and I am in the same boat, you want to make sure you are taking the proper steps.
